Despite the discussion about the product group illuminated acrylic letters with potted LEDs, in 2021 we started developing LEDs for our acrylic letters typoLITE® with defined light temperatures of 3000 to 6000°K, because we can also use them in our product typoLED®. The new LED series is also accompanied by a change in the acrylic used. The new acrylic is characterized by the fact that the degree of whiteness is also significantly higher during the day when the light is switched off.
With the further development and upgrade of our typoLITE® products, we are also taking into account the changing needs, since of legal requirements for pure white light. For outdoor illuminated advertising, these only allow a maximum light temperature of 5000°K, in some European countries max. 4500°K, for example in Italy.
However, light colors of up to 4000°K are often only necessary for indoor signs, because they are better suited to general lighting.
Last but not least, with the new products we also meet the specifications of the European Sign Federation (ESF) for the lighting design of illuminated advertising systems. The current Code Of Practice, published by the ESF in early 2022, sets a color temperature of 5000°K as the standard for white-lit signs. An emission of light temperatures above 6000°K – our LED reaches a value of approx. 6100°(*) – may only be used in combination with colored foil in order to achieve optimum color rendering.
